WESTPHALIA, Mich. — A benefit dinner for a Michigan State Police trooper with a rare form of brain cancer has been rescheduled due to severe weather.

It will now be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 25 at Pewamo-Westphalia High School.

The dinner will help Dane Van Ells, who was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma — a tumor located on the middle of the brain stem. Van Ells received his diagnosis in early November, just two weeks before he was set to start patrolling the roads on his own.

A GoFundMe has been created to help Van Ells through treatments for the disease in addition to the benefit dinner.
