Community surprises veterans for their birthdays

BELDING, Mich. — Two veterans in Belding, known for helping support the recently built veterans park, are getting some well deserved love and attention.

Bob Sayers and Milt Rackham are both celebrating birthdays, but they had no a parade was coming.

The parade came together in just a matter of hours after Holly Noble put out a post on Facebook caller her friends and family do something a extra special for the veterans.

“Just in the matter of an hour or two, that they all committed to jump on board and come with us," Noble said. "It just means a ton for us."

Sayers, a Korean War veteran, turned 87 Thursday, along with Rackham, a WWII veteran, who turned 95.

“I can’t believe it. I didn’t know this many people knew me," Sayers said.

Nobel is the daughter of the late Denny Caycraft, who built the veterans memorial in Belding. She said she wanted to bring everyone together for these veterans because they support the park.

“Thrilled, I guess would be the right word. I just couldn’t believe it," Rackham said.
