LOWELL, Mich. — The Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred Sunday morning on Interstate 96 in western Ionia County.
MSP reported the accident happened at 8:34 a.m. Sunday on westbound I-96 near mile marker 57 southeast of Lowell.
The investigation revealed that a 42-year-old Grand Rapids woman was westbound on 96 when her vehicle left the roadway, overturned several times and crashed. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by MSP.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Ionia County Sheriff's Department, the Saranac Fire Department and Life EMS.
