IONIA, Mich. — A drive-thru fundraiser at a McDonald’s in Ionia will be held today. Its aim: keep the Ionia Free Fair supported until it comes back in 2021.

The Ionia Free Fair would have begun today, July 16, 2020, except for the coronavirus pandemic.

“The Ionia Free Fair is an iconic part of our community,” said Keith Berg, owner of the Ionia McDonald’s, “and we want to step in and do our part in helping any effort toward returning the fair in 2021.”

“With the support of businesses like McDonald’s, we really hope to continue legacy of one of Michigan’s oldest and largest fairs,” said fair board member Jason Reams in a release.

Donations can be made by cash or check in a drive-thru lane at the Ionia McDonald’s, 2784 South Street, today 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

A portion of the day’s food sales will also go to supporting the fair.
