IONIA, Mich. — Health officials have confirmed the first case of COVID-19 in Ionia County.
The county's health department says the patient is a senior woman who is currently hospitalized. Officials will contact people who will have been in close contact with the woman and assess them for symptoms.
"At this time, I advise the public to be diligent, yet level-headed, in prevention efforts," Ionia County health officer Ken Bowen said in a release.
People who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms are advised to self-isolate for two weeks to avoid exposing others to the virus. Symptoms can appear from two to 14 days after being exposed to the virus and include fever, cough and shortness of breath.
