WESTPHALIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Friends, family, and total strangers are raising money for a Michigan State Police trooper that was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.

MSP Lakeview hosted a benefit supporting Dane Van Ells and his family Saturday night at Pewamo-Westphalia High School.

Organizers set up a bake sale, a 50/50, and sold shirts with "Van Ells" printed on the back. 100% of the proceeds will now go to Dane and his Family, according to Lieutenant Christian Clute.

The entire event only cost the MSP Lakeview post $78 to put it all together thanks to everyone's generosity, Clute said.

"I'm lucky in the fact that I work on the same office that Dane works out of," he added. "He's a great police officer, a great person, and and we're just very, very, very proud of him."

If you would like to help them out, stop by or contact the MSP Lakeview post to get in touch with Dane's family.
