WALKER, Mich. — Police are investigating a shooting in Walker Tuesday afternoon.

The Walker Police Department (WPD) says the shooting occurred north of Lake Michigan Drive on Maynard Avenue shortly after 2 p.m.

A man sustained a gunshot wound to the leg in a targeted attack, police say. He was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

WPD tells us the suspect took off in a black sedan, possibly a Chrysler 300 or Ford Fusion.

The public is not believed to be in any danger.

We’re told the stretch of Maynard Avenue between Brianna and Cassandra streets was closed to traffic while investigations took place. The road has since reopened.

The public is advised to “avoid the area” and travel along a different route.

Those who usually pick up students at Cassandra Street and Maynard Avenue are asked to pick them up at Cassandra Street and Cassandra Court. Alternatively, get in touch with the officer stationed at Brianna Street and Maynard Avenue.
