62-year-old Cannon Twp. man dies in Grattan Twp. crash

GRATTAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 62-year-old man from Cannon Township has died following a crash in Grattan Township Thursday morning.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) says the crash happened at 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of 5 Mile Road and Lincoln Lake Avenue.

We’re told the man was traveling east along 5 Mile Road when he disregarded the stop sign at the intersection and into the path of a northbound 23-year-old Belding man.

The crash resulted in a fire that was extinguished by firefighters from Cannon and Grattan townships, according to the sheriff’s office.

KCSO says the 62-year-old was pronounced dead after the incident, adding the Belding man was seriously hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.

Traffic is backed up. Deputies ask drivers to find an alternate route.
