GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Kent County Commissioner Jim Saalfeld announced Thursday he will resign from his position.

Saalfeld was reelected in November 2018 for a term that runs through 2020 for District 11, which represents about 35,000 people living in Grand Rapids Township, Ada Township and East Grand Rapids.

His resignation is effective March 15.

In a release, Saalfeld said his duties as a CEO of a nonprofit would have forced him to miss a number of meetings.

“While the decision was difficult, I believe it comes at a good time for the County,” he said.
