GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Most people won’t remember the gift you get them this holiday season. If the research is right, one in six gifts received this month will never be touched or used again after January 1. So, what’s the gift-giver to do?
Lauren Befus, founder of Memory Lane Jane, a local life story writing company, has the privilege of partnering with West Michigan families to preserve their loved ones’ life story and legacy in an heirloom book.
“This was our gift to the family, to my siblings, to my parents and to the generations to come,” said Memory Lane Jane Client Jon Drobish. “They’ll be able to look back at pictures of Grandpa and Grandma Drobish and read about their life. This will be a treasure in our family forever.”
According to a November article in The Wall Street Journal, sharing family stories has a powerful psychological impact on the entire family. Family stories can serve as antidotes for the pressure many teens feel today and nostalgia is proven to lower the heart rate, improve memory and mood, and reduce depression and stress.
