BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Battle Creek police and Michigan State police on Monday arrested a suspect in connection to the robbery of a 75-year-old man outside a gas station in September.

Curtis Lee Smith, 29, was arrested in the Lansing area, according to a news release Tuesday.

The robbery happened Sept. 25 outside the All Star gas station at 320 Capital Avenue SW.

When police responded, they found a 75-year-old man lying in the road on West Gogouc Street.

They determined he was robbed, then run over by Smith’s vehicle as he left the scene.

At the time, the man was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in critical condition.

He’s now recovering at another local hospital.

Smith is in the Calhoun County Jail.

Detectives identified him as a suspect in September but could not find him.

They issued a warrant Oct. 26 for assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.
