KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A teenager was critically hurt after a shooting in Kalamazoo Wednesday afternoon, with wounds that were ultimately unsurvivable.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) says the shooting took place before 3 p.m. near Stockbridge Avenue and Mills Street.
A teenager was found in a nearby alley, seriously wounded. He had been shot in the head, officers say.
Officers tried to treat him on site, before sending him to the hospital, where he passed away just before 4 p.m.
He has been identified as 17-year-old Markii Jerrell Robinson.
"The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety wishes to extend its sincerest condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Robinson," wrote the department in a press release on Wednesday.
Officers say they're still investigating.
Now, Kalamazoo detectives are on the lookout for the suspects, believing the shooting was a drive-by.
Officers started searching for a car described as a 2023 Hyundai Tucson with an Indiana license plate reading FL770ACY.
The Hyundai was recently stolen. The vehicle was found in Richmond Township around 9:30 p.m. According to police, someone had tried to burn the vehicle.
KDPS says the occupants should be considered armed and dangerous. If they are spotted, the public should call 911.
