KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Two Michigan families are celebrating tonight after giving birth in Kalamazoo.

One was the final baby born at Bronson Hospital in 2020 – and he has the name to fit.

The other, the first of the new year.

“He’s gonna make his grand finale; that’s what he did (laughing),” said Robert Jones.

He and Courteney Swartz held their new bundle of joy while talking with FOX 17 over Zoom.

Finale Jefe Michael Jones arrived at 11:34 New Years Eve at Bronson Methodist. The hospital says Finale lived up to his name being the last baby born there in 2020.

Weighing in at 6 pounds 11 ounces, mom and dad tell us all the little man does is sleep and eat.

Doctors thought he’d be here on 1/1/21, but he had other plans. The family got to the hospital Thursday night around 5.

“And they were inducing me, and we were trying to get it to where he would be born after midnight, but it did not,” said Courteney. “He made his appearance at the end of the night.”

The couple already has three other children: Amaya (13), Solo (9) and Rosie (6). Finale, as you can tell by his name, is their last one.

“We actually came up with his name years ago because we were like, 'If we have another kid and it’s a boy, we’re gonna name him Finale because we’re done after that,'” said Robert.

Another cutie is the first baby born New Year's Day for Bronson. At 6 pounds 14 ounces, little Rowyn Jade arrived 40 minutes after Finale at Bronson BirthPlace in Kalamazoo.

Celeste and Blake Weimer of Texas Township are the proud parents, welcoming their girl at 12:14 AM.

“The fact that she came even after midnight, it was exciting because the fireworks were going off while I was in labor and stuff, so it was pretty exciting,” said Celeste.

Rowyn is the couple’s sixth child but their first baby girl. All their kids were born on odd years.

The first in 2011, then 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and now 2021. Rowyn, we’re told, will be their last.

“It’s been really exciting to have a daughter after having five boys. It feels a lot different having a girl already,” said Celeste.

Mom was induced about two weeks early because of a rare medical condition. They’re calling Rowyn a miracle baby.

“She actually had a knot in her cord when she came out, so the doctor was really happy that she came out when she came out because that could’ve been pretty bad,” said Mom.

Both families plan to head home tomorrow, January 2nd.

Bronson BirthPlace in Battle Creek also welcomed its first baby of the new year just before 1:30AM.
