OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says six emus have been found after they had gotten loose near Stadium Drive and Sixth Street Wednesday morning.
Motorists were encouraged to exercise caution in the Oshtemo Township area in a Facebook post.
“Never a dull day,” the department wrote on its Facebook page.
Deputies later released bodycam video of the efforts to capture one of the emus:
"The family had requested our assistance in helping locate their emus that had gotten loose," says Sheriff Richard Fuller. "And the family was concerned that these animals could have caused a traffic crash, or injured someone."
Fuller says the emus likely escaped as a result of the windy weather.
"Animals are spooked right now because there's a lot of high winds, a lot of limbs falling down, things like that."
