KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A 21-year-old Kalamazoo resident has been arrested on multiple felony charges after a KDPS officer found a handgun during a traffic stop.

The officer on Tuesday had seen a vehicle slowly following a woman walking on S. Westnedge Avenue near Forest Street, according to a news release Wednesday.

When the officer stopped to investigate, they saw a traffic violation and stopped the vehicle.

The driver became uncooperative during the stop and refused to get out of the car.

An empty handgun holster was on his hip.

He resisted officers while being removed from the car and was quickly detained.

Police found a handgun with a loaded high-capacity magazine directly under the driver’s seat.

The man was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail and was awaiting arraignment.
