KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Kalamazoo police are still looking for the suspect in a carjacking incident in which a shot was fired Monday night.

A Kalamazoo Public Safety officer heard a gunshot and glass breaking about 11 p.m. in the 900 block of N. Westnedge Avenue, a news release said.

Soon after, someone called 9-1-1 to report that a vehicle had been taken at gunpoint.

A police investigation showed the victim had been sitting in a vehicle when the carjacker, described as a Black man wearing a red hoodie with a black face mask, approached the vehicle and threatened to shoot him.

One shot was reported to have been shot into the vehicle.

The victim got out of the car and the carjacker stole it and fled the area.

Officers found the car soon after and a KDPS K-9 unit tried to find the carjacker.

He was not found.

The two men did not know each other.
