Man in critical condition after weekend shooting in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — An 18-year-old man was in critical condition after a shooting early Sunday in Kalamazoo.

The incident occurred about 12:40 a.m. in the 600 block of Portage Road, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.

Officers found the man suffering from a gunshot wound when they arrived and he was taken to a nearby hospital.

Kalamazoo police found the two shooters responsible within a few hours of the incident.

A 16-year-old was taken into custody in the 200 block of Reed Street for his involvement, and a firearm was found at the same location.

He is being held at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home on weapons offenses and felony assault charges.

The second suspect was found in the 700 block of W. Walnut, where a second firearm was also found.

He was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail on the same offenses and charges.

The man shot was in stable condition as of Monday.
