PORTAGE, Mich. — A motorcyclist is seriously hurt following a crash in Portage Thursday evening.

The crash happened near Westnedge Avenue and Romence Road Parkway before 7:15 p.m., according to the Portage Department of Public Safety (PDPS).

We're told the 64-year-old motorcyclist from Vicksburg traveled east when he hit a van that was pulling out of a nearby parking lot.

The motorcyclist was hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries, public safety officials say. The other driver, a 70-year-old man from Kalamazoo, was unharmed.

Alcohol is not a suspected contributor to the crash, which remains under investigation.

Dispatchers say two eastbound lanes and one westbound lane on Romence Road Parkway are closed.

Those with knowledge related to the crash are encouraged to connect with investigators at 269-329-4567 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
