ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — The Michigan State Police (MSP) is conducting an internal investigation after a trooper shot and killed the suspect of a home invasion in Hamilton Monday.
Around 3 p.m., officers responded to a home off of Oak Drive near 132nd Avenue in Heath Township for a breaking and entering call.
A trooper who responded to the incident encountered a suspect in the yard, according to MSP.
Witnesses say that an altercation took place before a gun shot was fired by the trooper.
The man shot by the trooper was pronounced dead at the scene.
The trooper sustained minor injuries to the face, according to a spokesperson for MSP.
The suspect did not live at the home were this incident took place, but investigation has revealed that the suspect and one of the homeowners knew each other from a past relationship, authorities report..
An internal investigation is being conducted by MSP's Sixth District Incident Response Team.
