PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Search crews are expected to resume their search for the missing 16-year-old Eliza Trainer who was swept off the North Pier Wednesday night at Holland State Park.
First responders spent much of Thursday searching for Trainer and are now considering it a search and recovery effort.
The sheriff's department says Trainer is from the Flint area and was visiting Lake Michigan for the first time with a friend when high waves swept both into the water.
Her male friend was able to escape the water and call 911 but Trainer was not and has not resurfaced.
Weather conditions have been too severe for the rescue crews to use most of their usual tactics.
Crews are expected to resume their search Friday morning because after daylight there is no way for crews to find Trainer's body in the tumultuous current.
