MUSKEGON, Mich. — Two children were rescued from the rooftop and another from inside during a house fire early Saturday morning.

At 2:10 a.m. Saturday, the Muskegon Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire on Emerson Avenue near Roberts Street, according to the Muskegon Professional Firefighters Union. While firefighters were en route, updated reports indicated that three children were still inside the house. Moments later, another report was received saying that two of the youngsters were trapped on the roof and one was still inside.

As firefighters arrived at the scene, Muskegon Police Department officers were able to help catch a child who jumped from a second-story window.

The two additional children on the roof were evacuated safely.

Crews then entered the house under heavy smoke conditions and located flames on the first floor. The fire was knocked down and a primary search was completed with no additional victims located. Crews remained on scene for some time to perform salvage and overhaul.

In addition to the Muskegon Police Department, the ProMed Ambulance and DTE Energy assisted at the scene.
