Crash closes SB lanes of US-31 for hours in Muskegon County

NORTON SHORES, Mich. — A semi crash closed a portion of US-31 for hours Wednesday night.

It happened around 8:12 p.m. in the southbound lanes of US 31 near Airline Road in Norton Shores.

According to the Norton Shores Police Department, the driver of the semi lost control on wet roads and struck the overpass pillar head-on at Airline Road.

The driver was pinned in the vehicle before being rescued and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the semi was hauling boxes of foam at the time of the crash.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

The highway reopened around 3 a.m. Thursday morning.
