MUSKEGON, Mich. — Two fishermen had to be rescued by boat after a section of ice on Muskegon Lake broke away and floated out into the lake.

It happened just after 2:30 p.m. Monday near the Cottage Grove boat launch on Muskegon Lake, according to Muskegon Profesional Firefighters Union.

Crews had to wear ice suits and use a fan boat to safely remove the two men and their equipment from the ice.

The men were brought to safety unharmed.

Firefighters say this incident serves as a reminder that ice on the lake is not safe at this time.
