MUSKEGON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — First responders are looking for a man who went into the water near the channel between Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake.

The Muskegon Fire Department says a man fell out of a boat into Lake Michigan just north of the channel on Thursday morning around 10:30 a.m. Deputies say the man was not wearing a life jacket and was only able to tread water for a few minutes before disappearing.

Witnesses told dispatcher that a life preserver was thrown, but it appeared the man never grabbed it.

Crews from Muskegon, Muskegon Township, Norton Shores, and North Muskegon responded to the scene.

The only provided description of the man so far is that he was wearing a blue hoodie.

Muskegon Township Fire Department is handling the continued search for the man.
