ALLENDALE, Mich. — A local Freedom March is occurring in Allendale today at the same time of a planned peaceful protest nearby against a Confederate statute in town.
The Freedom March in Allendale is part of the Nationwide Freedom March being held across several states today at 3 p.m.
Organizers for the Allendale event, which includes speakers from the Michigan Militia, American Legion and local veterans, are expecting more than 250 attendees. The event is taking place near the Allendale Township Hall.

At the same time, a peaceful protest is occurring at Allendale Township Hall. Members of the Michigan Association of Civil Rights Activists, Justice for Black Lives, AIM and other activists are protesting against the Allendale statue honoring the Confederacy.
Those protesters are also calling for the removal of Ryan Kelley from the township’s Planning Commission, as he is believed by some to be associated with alleged terrorists arrested earlier this month for plotting to kidnap and kill Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
A few moments of tension after five of the freedom march attendees walked over to the second protest.
