HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A four-year-old boy is in critical condition after being thrown from a vehicle during a crash, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on I-196 east near Adams Street in Holland Township.

Deputies say two vehicles were involved in the crash; however, they have not said what exactly caused it.

Investigators say a 45-year-old Holland man was driving the van, which rolled over because of the crash.

He and a 30-year-old woman passenger received minor injuries.

A four-year-old boy, who the sheriff’s office says was not buckled in properly, was thrown from the van and was last listed as in critical condition.

A three-year-old girl was also in the van when it rolled, and the sheriff’s office says she was not hurt.

The driver of the other car, a 42-year-old Alto man, was not hurt.

The sheriff’s office asks any witnesses who either saw the cars before or during the crash to call Ottawa County Central Dispatch at 1-800-249-0911 or Silent Observer at 877-88-SILENT.

Part of I-196 was closed in both directions for several hours; however, the sheriff's office says it was reopened around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
