HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Oscar Mar-Arteaga was arraigned in the 58th District Court of Holland on one count of driving while intoxicated causing death in connection to a crash that left a 58-year-old Holland Township man dead.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) says a 27-year-old man from Holland drove south in a pickup truck on Butternut Drive when he sideswiped another car near Rose Park Drive.
We’re told the impact resulted in a loss of control over the truck and onto a nearby sidewalk, hitting a pedestrian.
The truck hit a total of six parked vehicles until it came to a stop, deputies say.
The pedestrian reportedly died of his injuries at the scene.
Drugs are a suspected factor in the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.
OCSO states Butternut Drive at Rose Park Drive was closed for several hours while investigations took place. Dispatchers say the road has since reopened.
Mar-Arteaga’s bond was set at $250,000. Additionally, authorities are attempting to speak with an unknown woman seen walking with the now-deceased victim at the time of the crash.
