SPRING LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — One person was hurt when a fire broke out at a busy vehicle junkyard in Ottawa County.
Spring Lake Fire Chief John Stalzer told FOX 17 an outbuilding at Joe's Auto Parts caught fire along with roughly half a dozen vehicles.
One of the workers at the junkyard was injured in the fire. He is hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.
Posts on social media noted large plumes of black smoke coming from the area, a sight also confirmed by our crew.
At least 6 fire departments responded to help. Chief Stalzer says the toughest part was getting to the area of the junkyard where the fire was burning. The maze of broken vehicles prevented firefighters from running directly for the flames.
M-104 was closed for more than an hour so crews could safely respond to the scene.
