SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Chippewa County police have arrested two men from Grand Rapids in connection with a prescription fraud scheme.
Detectives from Trident were investigating a prescription fraud complaint in Sault Ste Marine in which someone had called in a prescription claiming to be a doctor from lower Michigan.
An investigation found that someone was on their way to the pharmacy to pick up the prescription, according to a news release.
Two men, Leroy Joseph McKay Jr., 26, and Deiontreay Darell Craft, 23, both from Grand Rapids, arrived at the pharmacy while detectives were conducting surveillance.
Police arrested one of the men when he went inside and tried to pick up the fake prescription, and found the other man waiting in their vehicle.
A stolen handgun and more prescriptions thought to be falsely obtained were found in the vehicle, according to police.
McKay and Craft are being held on controlled substance- and firearm-related charges.
Both were arraigned in the 91st District Court on Thursday and given $100,000 bonds with tether.
