West Michigan school districts provide food during unprecedented closure

WEST MICHIGAN — Please find your school below for information on food distribution during the closure.

WAYLAND UNION SCHOOLS
When: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 3/16-4/3.
Where: Various locations. See their Facebook Post here.
Parents/guardians can pick up bagged breakfast and lunch for all students under 18 years old in their household. They are not providing meals during the week that would be Spring Break, 4/6-4/10.

HOLLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS
When: Mondays and Wednesdays from 9-11 a.m.
Where: Follow the link here for details on locations.
Meals will be provided for children under 18. Parents/guardians may pick up food for their children.

GRAND HAVEN AREA PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Please see their COVID-19 Webpage for the latest information about the district during the closure.

KALAMAZOO PUBLIC SCHOOLS
When: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 3/16-4/3
Where: Various locations listed here.
An emergency food distribution network has been set up at 20 schools across 4 communities. Bagged breakfasts and lunches will be available.

OTSEGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS
A similar program to their summer food program will be run during the closure starting 3/16 for anyone 18 or younger, “regardless of free/reduced-lunch status”.
They expect a schedule to be posted here Sunday, 3/15.

BATTLE CREEK
Meal pick-up is being coordinated and will be announced here. The first pick-up is 3/17 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS
Two days-worth of breakfasts and lunches will be delivered to school-aged children at the regular bus stops.
When: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during the closure. Deliveries will be made to the first stop at 11:30 a.m.
The school district asks for patience as there are 42 stops in the community and they will be making door-to-door stops for students with special needs. Full information including a list of the stops can be found here.

ALLEGAN PUBLIC SCHOOLS
The school district is currently working on creating a plan. The high school will be open on 3/17 and 3/19 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. to collect non-perishable foods that will be delivered to local food pantries. More information can be found here.

PLAINWELL COMMUNITY SCHOOLS
Cold breakfast and lunch for all students will be available Monday-Friday. Locations are still being determined, but pick-up will begin 3/17. Announcements of the times and locations will be sent to families on Monday 3/16.

BANGOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Meal plans for breakfast and lunch are still being made. Updates can be found here.

ZEELAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Feeding America will be at Roosevelt Elementary on 3/17 from 6-7 p.m. All families can contact Hand2Hand – a program within ZPS, at 616-283-2645 to request food deliveries. Anyone interested in making donations or in need of food and non-perishable household items should contact Harvest Stand in Zeeland. Plans will be posted here as they are finalized.

MUSKEGON PUBLIC SCHOOL
Buses will be making daily drop-offs of breakfast and lunch. Special drop-off sights are being made for students who normally walk to school. See the school’s Facebook or website for more details about drop-off locations and times.

IONIA PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Breakfast and lunch for children up to 18 years-old will be provided starting 3/16 through 4/3.
Where: Boyce, Emerson, and Twin Rivers Elementary Schools and Ionia High School.
When: Weekdays 10 a.m. – noon.

PORTLAND
A plan is being developed to provide free lunch during the shut down. Keep checking the school website for information and updates.

LOWELL PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Lunch will be provided for students during the week for 30 minutes at each of the 5 sites listed here. The finalized schedule is still pending.

DELTON KELLOGG SCHOOL DISTRICT
The school is still making plans for food distribution to different communities in the district. More information will be listed here.

WYOMING PUBLIC SCHOOLS
The school posted information on joining Food Club and are still making plans, which will be posted here once finalized.

BYRON CENTER PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Monday, Thursday 12pm-1pm, at Byron Center High School (bus loop) for drive-through meals

HASTINGS AREA SCHOOLS
Hastings is teaming wit hthe YMCA of Barry County to feed children during the closure at multiple locations. More information can be found here.

The Michigan State Police, Niles Post, provided information for the following schools:

BENTON HARBOR ARE SCHOOLS:
Breakfasts and lunches will be provided beginning March 16th.
When: 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

BERRIEN SPRINGS PUBLIC SCHOOLS:
When: March 16th - April 5th, 11 a.m. to noon
Where: Pick-up at the high school's circle drive, or by delivery at Tiver Estates Mobile Home Park Office.
