BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. — Berrien County rescue crews are searching the Saint Joseph River for a man who went under while rescuing a child and never came back up Friday night.

The 46 year-old was with another adult and 3 children, boating and swimming on the river, when one of the kids started to struggle. The man was able to get the child out of the water, but was not able to get themselves out. He went underwater at approximately 7 p.m. one mile down river from the Jasper Dairy boat launch and has not been seen since.

Rescue crews are still searching the water for the Berrien County resident.
