Man charged with domestic assault, assaulting police in Big Rapids

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — One person has been arrested after a Mecosta County police officer was assaulted while responding to a possible breaking and entering situation Friday.

The caller told police her ex-boyfriend was in her home and stealing her belongings, according to a news release Monday.

When police arrived, they found Kavoceya Alexzay Vanassche leaving the back of the home in the 800 block of Water Tower Road.

While attempting to take Vanassche into custody, he fought with officers, injuring one of them.

He was lodged at the Mecosta County Jail for several charges, including felonious assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and felonious domestic assault.

Vannassche was arraigned through the 77th District Court and is being held on a $100,000 surety.
