STANWOOD, Mich. — A pair of teens confessed to breaking into an elementary school and causing more than $50,000 worth of damage, according to a press release from police.

The Mecosta County Sheriff's Office says a 14-year-old from Stanwood and 15-year-old from Morley broke into Stanwood Elementary on Halloween night. The two boys left a path of destruction in the school that cost more than $57,000 to clean up.

Detectives spent months collecting evidence, then interviewed the boys, getting both to confess.

Petitions for charges in juvenile court are being sent to the prosecutor's office for review.
