OCEANA COUNTY, Mich. — A Coopersville man was killed while riding a quad at Silver Lake State Park.
According to DNR officials, it happened just before 6 p.m. Sunday on the newest portion of the ORV area.
The Oceana County Sheriff's Department is investigating the crash. FOX 17 stopped by the sheriff's office on Monday. No one was available to talk, presumably because of the Labor Day holiday. FOX 17 was told a press release will likely be sent out Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, at the dunes at Silver Lake State Park, families were having fun. Many people shared in the sadness of the life lost on Sunday. Folks told FOX 17 it was a busy day at the park.
Jack Kampuis saw the aftermath of the crash.
“Just a ton of DNRs and cops surrounding him,” Kampuis said. “Then they covered him. It was really sad.”
This crash was the second deadly one of the summer at Silver Lake. May 26, Kadie Price was killed at the park.
Both fatal crashes happened on Sundays of holiday weekends.
