VIDEO: Explosion damages metro Detroit home, no one was hurt, officials say

GARDEN CITY, Mich. (WXYZ) — No one was injured after a house exploded in Garden City Thursday evening, fire officials said.

The explosion happened around 6:50 p.m. on Silvio Street near Marcello Street.

Tammy Howard, a neighbor, told 7 News Detroit she called 911.

"Carly and I were in the house just watching TV and all of a sudden, we heard a big explosion but then our house shook, the walls, the windows, everything,” she said.

“The explosion, it was pretty violent,” Garden City Fire Chief Randy Keen told 7 News Detroit.

He said there were fires on the first floor and in the basement, but firefighters quickly contained them. Bricks blew off three sides of the home.

“We’re hoping that the person who lives there is OK,” neighbor Lucy Slater said.

The city said no one was home when the house caught fire and exploded and no one was hurt.

The home was damaged but surrounding houses were not impacted, officials said. The city there’s no active threat in the area.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
