GAINES TWP, Mich. — One person was injured in a drive-by shooting on Campus Drive, south of 60th Street.

On Wednesday night, deputies with the Kent County Sheriff's Office say one adult man sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

The man was taken to the hospital, deputies said in a Tweet posted around 9:30 p.m.

It was a drive-by shooting, deputies believe at this time.

Several cars filed into Campus Drive and began honking their horns outside a home there, deputies say. That was when a 23-year-old man walked out of the house and was shot by occupants inside the vehicles, according to KCSO. The victim was subsequently taken to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

There were other people inside the house at the time but were not harmed. Authorities tell us a home next door was damaged in the shooting.

We're told reports were filed of cars driving recklessly nearby shortly before the shooting took place.

KCSO says two of the vehicles involved of the shooting were stolen and have since been located in the Grand Rapids area.

The shooting is not believed to be a random act of violence. It is not yet known how many suspects were involved.

Those with knowledge of the shooting are urged to connect with deputies at 616-632-6125 or Silent Observer at 616-774-2345.
