MUSKEGON, Mich — Police were on the scene of an active investigation in Muskegon County Monday evening.

Dispatch officials confirm to FOX 17 that residents in the area of North Sheridan and Hiawatha were asked to shelter in place.

The Muskegon Township Police Department (MTPD) says someone had experienced a mental health crisis and may have been armed.

Officers say they tried to reached out to him but was noncompliant at first. Once they got him to speak, he was brought into protective custody.

MTPD credits Michigan State Police, the Muskegon County Sheriff's Office, Muskegon County ERT and the North Muskegon Police Department for their assistance.
