NILES, Mich. — Two people have been arrested for an armed robbery in Niles.

It happened around 12:25 p.m. Dec. 5 on S 7th Street between Broadway and Oak Street. The victim told police two men with guns took money and marijuana from him. During the robbery, the victim said he was shot at once but wasn’t hit.

Police said that bullet traveled into a neighbor’s house and came within feet of hitting someone inside.

The suspects ran away from the area before police arrived.

Five days later, dispatchers received a report of gunshots at a home in the same place at the robbery. Once again, there were people inside when the shots were fired but nobody was hurt.

The suspects had left the area before police made it to the scene.

Investigators gathered bull casings and determined more than one kind of handgun was used during the incidents. Detectives were eventually able to identify two suspects using evidence and information from tipsters.

One of the suspects, 18-year-old Brandon Jordan of Edwardsburg, was found at work. Police say they found a handgun in his vehicle that matched up with the casings found at the robbery scene.

The other suspect, 19-year-old Caleb Alkire, was found at his Niles apartment where police found a gun and evidence of the robbery.

Jordan is facing charges of armed robbery, first-degree home invasion, concealing a weapon and two counts of felony firearm.

Alkire was charged with armed robbery, first-degree home invasion, concealing a weapon, a weapons offense and two counts of felony firearm.
