ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. — A Good Samaritan who stopped to help a stranded motorist was robbed at gunpoint at midday Friday.
At 12:27 p.m. Friday, the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an armed robbery on M-86 near Fairfax Road in Colon Township. The investigation showed that a 45-year-old man from Sturgis was flagged down by a man in a white Ford F-150 pickup truck with Illinois license plates who was stopped alongside the highway. The man said he was out of gas and the Sturgis driver agreed to take him to a gas station.
The suspect and two other men then pulled the driver from his vehicle at gunpoint, held him down in the back seat of his own vehicle and searched him for money, which they found. The three then left in the pickup truck westbound on M-86 toward M-66.
All three were described as white males in their 30s.
The victim was not injured during the assault.
The incident remains under investigation by the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office. Anybody with any information is being asked to contact the sheriff's office or St. Joseph County Central Dispatch.
The Colon Police Department assisted at the scene.
