PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. — St. Joseph County police are still looking for a man who fled after an attempted traffic stop.
The incident happened about 8:10 a.m. Friday near Heimbach Road in Park Township, a news release said.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop on a maroon Ford F150 for speeding.
The vehicle fled southbound on US131 and continued to an area near Cowling Road and Mohney Lake Road, where it got stuck after veering into a field.
The man driving the car and a female passenger fled on foot, and deputies chasing them tased the woman when she resisted them.
She was evaluated by medical staff and lodged at the St. Joseph County Jail on multiple charges.
Police believe the driver later stole a maroon GMC Yukon from a home in the 14000 block of Bullock Road in Fabius Township.
That vehicle was later found abandoned in Kalamazoo.
Officers determined that the original Ford pickup the man was driving had been stolen out of Mecosta County.
A handgun and narcotics were also found in the pickup.
Police say they believe they know the identity of the man but aren’t releasing it at this time.
