MENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A woman living in South Carolina is getting jewelry stolen from her several years ago back thanks to a St. Joseph County deputy.

A deputy pulled a vehicle over Wednesday on M-60 near Haas Road in Mendon Township, about 12 miles northeast of Three Rivers. During a search of the vehicle, the deputy found a concealed weapon and assorted jewelry inside the vehicle, include a 1980s class ring from a Battle Creek-area high school.

The driver admitted to not owning any of the jewelry and was arrested for having a concealed weapon and stolen property.

The deputy who stopped the vehicle was able to find the ring’s owner, who has since moved to South Carolina. She told authorities the items had been stolen from a home several years ago in Battle Creek and had significant sentimental value to her and the family.

Deputies have made arrangements her the women to get everything that was taken from her back.
