ALMENA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A person is dead after crashing their SUV into a tree Sunday morning around 1:15 a.m.
Van Buren County Sheriff's deputies say it happened off of Country Rd. 375 in Almena Township, where a vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.
Mattawan Fire Department helped fight the flames so that both parties were able to find the dead occupant of the SUV.
That vehicle was heading west on Country Rd. 375 when it went off the road and hit the tree, causing "catastrophic" damage and catching on fire.
The only occupant of the SUV was dead when deputies arrived.
There is no word on if alcohol or drugs were involved, and the crash is still under investigation.
