HARTFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A man was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Van Buren County after authorities say he drove through a corn field and horse pasture during a chase.
It started when a deputy tried to stop the 19-year-old Chase Porter’s vehicle for a traffic violation, which is when authorities say the driver took off. Deputies say Porter drove off and was chased through Hartford and Keeler townships and eventually drove through a corn field near 68th Avenue and 62nd Street.
Deputies kept sight of the vehicle through the corn field and into a horse pasture, eventually ending up on 62nd Street, turning into a yard and crashing behind a house.
At that point, deputies say the driver got out of the vehicle and ran into the house. Authorities surrounded the home and Porter eventually surrendered without incident. Deputies say he knew the homeowner and found several bags of methamphetamine inside.
Porter was taken into custody on charges of fleeing and eluding arrest, resisting and obstructing police and possession of methamphetamine.
