SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. — Two adults and a 3 year-old were rescued from the Black River channel after their canoe capsized Tuesday afternoon.

The family had been caught by a wave in the canoe they rented up-river, putting all three into the water.

South Haven Area Emergency Services (SHAES) responder, Matthew Dey saw the overturned boat and people in the water. Dey threw a life line to the man and the 3-year-old, pulling them to the ladder, then did the same for the woman.

The family members were all wearing life-jackets and didn't require medical attention.

SHAES has responded to many water-related distress calls, including two drownings in South Haven so far this summer.
