VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — Hundreds of AEP Power and Consumers Energy customers lost electrical service along the Lake Michigan shore Saturday morning.
At 9:31 a.m. Saturday, power was knocked out to 848 customers in northwestern Van Buren County and southwestern Allegan County, including parts of the towns of South Haven and Bangor. The city of South Haven said the outage was caused by “an AEP issue of losing the main feed coming into town.”
Shortly after the outage began, South Haven Emergency Services was able to help remove two people from an elevator that was stuck at the Baymont Inn & Suites in South Haven.
Crews were immediately on the scene, found the problem and were making repairs.
AEP Power originally estimated the restoration time at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, but then later updated the completion time to "this afternoon/early evening."
