VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — Van Buren County sheriffs made spirits bright this Christmas.

The department raised more than $3,800 in cash and $3,490 in gift cards, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office, not including clothes and household items that were also raised.

Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott says the fundraiser benefited nine families in need this holiday season.

“I would like to give a special thank you to Meijer, (South Haven) and store director Sandy Wright for providing assistance again this year,” says Abbott. “Meijer was very accommodating while the deputies and volunteers were shopping for the families.”

No tax dollars were spent on the fundraiser, according to Abbott.

We’re told that volunteers helped wrap the presents before they were delivered to families in need on Saturday.

“Seeing the smiles on their faces and knowing we just made a difference in so many people’s lives lets you know all the time and effort was well worth it,” says Abbott.
