Van Buren County Sheriff's Office investigates attempted assault

HARTFORD TWP., Mich. — The suspect of theFourth of July shooting in Hartford Township has been formally arraigned on the charge of Assault with intent to commit murder.

36-year-old Estela Morales (photo above) was arraigned on this charge today in the 7th West District Court of Van Buren County.

Her bond was set at $1,000,000 cash or surety.

The 34-year-old male victim, whose name is not being released at this time, is still listed in critical condition at Bronson Methodist Hospital and has undergone multiple surgeries since the holiday.

It has been confirmed that Morales and the victim were in a domestic relationship.

The Sheriff's Office wanted to note that this is an isolated incident and poses no danger to the community at this time.

This investigation is open and currently being investigated by the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.
