As we round out the first week nestled at home, not only can you turn to Pinterest or tap into your own creativity, but some local businesses are providing options to keep everyone busy.
Let's start with something you can either snag yourself at a dollar store or other retailers: play dough.
Yes, it's annoying when it dries into your carpet, leaving you to feel as though you stepped on a tack when it dries, but play doh is awesome for motor skills and artistic ventures.
My 4 year-old sat for almost an hour this past weekend when I got out an ice cube tray, multiple colors of play dough and a small figurine. I would have him look away, hiding the little figurine and then stuffing it into the ice cube tray. He was like a little archaeologist digging through the dough, finding his little friend. I also played a long, letting him hide it, too.
I found this website also to be extremely fabulous for play dough ideas.
Want to make your own? Try this recipe from the Living Well Mom:
· 1 cup all-purpose flour
· 1 cup water
· 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
· 1/3 cup salt
· 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
· food coloring
Concerned that your little one will eat it? This site has all kinds of great options.
Some West Michigan businesses that focus on creativity, are also finding ways for you to entertain at home. To great examples: Hammer & Stain West Michigan along with GR Cookies/Cupcakes By Design, both in Grandville.
Hammer & Stain, 3901 Chicago Dr SW Suite 109, specializes in wooden, customized signs that you can create at their site, but with the current status, they are putting together a "Hammer at Home" kit. With a little guidance from me, even my 4 year-old was able to help. They have set times when you can pick up your pre-orders. If you let them know by midnight Friday, they can have ready by Saturday. See their Facebook page for more details on availability and how to order, or visit their website, hammerandstainwestmichigan.com.
Also, if your sweet tooth is getting the best of you, GR Cookies/Cupcake by Design, is offering a take home or delivery cookie decorating kit. You can get 10 cookies, three different colors of frosting for $19.99. There is a delivery option for an additional cost.
