GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meals on Wheels Western Michigan is dedicated to making sure seniors in our community are fed and taken care of and during the coronavirus pandemic, the need is bigger than its ever been.
They served more than 30,000 meals last week and say they are seeing an increase in demand like they have never seen before. Just last week they delivered 1,800 emergency boxes, each stocked with 14 meals to make sure seniors have what they need through all of this.
“We were prepared for an emergency, but no one was prepared for a pandemic of unknown duration, Meals on Wheels Western Michigan said in a statement. “But with the help of our neighbors we will be able to help our elders live through this crisis. On a daily basis we are calming their fears and providing nourishment right to their front door. We have been feeding seniors in need since 1984 and a bug like COVID-19 isn’t going to stop us. We are determined to keep supplying quality nutrition to support the health and independence of our senior citizens.”
