OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A man was shot and killed by police Friday morning after allegedly stabbing his own parents.

It happened after 7 a.m. at a home on Morningstar Way off of Chippendale Drive in Oshtemo Township.

According to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call where a suspect was threatening to hurt himself with a knife. Further investigation reveals the suspect is David Russell, a 38-year-old male.

Upon arrival, a lone deputy was confronted by Russell with a knife.

The deputy fired three shots, killing Russell.

Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office later discovered it was the scene of a stabbing.

The stabbed victims were Russell's mother and father, who were both transported to the hospital. One is stable while the other is undergoing surgery. Russell has no prior criminal record.

Michigan State Police are now investigating the incident, which is protocol with any shooting involving an officer to determine if the shooting was justified.
